SOLE SISTERS’ Mission
Media Projects, Inc.’s mission for Sole Sisters is to produce a documentary film about women’s lives seen through personal stories about their shoes. Anchored by the film, Media Projects will develop a multi-media platform with educational and entertainment experiences that include the web, theater and publishing opportunities. The Sole Sisters project will reach a global audience as it celebrates, uplifts and empowers women of all ages, ethnicities, and walks of life.
We are therefore always looking for organizations to take part in Community Projects which will extend the organization’s outreach and visibility while promoting their programs and services.
About the Filmmaker
Cynthia Salzman Mondell is an independent filmmaker who is committed to making films and videos that she feels have something to say about the world she lives in. Her first documentary on housing and the lack of it aired on public television in l977. She then teamed up with Allen Mondell to form Media Projects. Together, they have created over forty social-issue documentary films, museum films and educational videos. Most have aired nationally on television and won numerous awards including a Lone Star Emmy, Gracie Award, Cine Award, a Women In Film Topaz award.
Cynthia is past president of Women In Film – Dallas and past president of the Board of New Day Films, a nationally known independent film distribution cooperative . She served as a WIF Dallas’s International delegate. Along with Allen, her work includes the 6 films for the Six Floor Museum about the life, death and legacy of John Kennedy. FUNNY WOMEN plays at the Women’s Museum as a permanent exhibit. Louie, Louie: A Portrait in Parkinsons, a personal journey of her family’s struggle to cope with her father’s 30-year battle with the debiltating effects of Parkinson’s disease. THE LADIES ROOM has captured audiences around the Country. She spent 3 years going in and out of ladies rooms recording women’s secret culture. A FAIR TO REMEMBER is about the history of the State Fair of Texas, telling stories from business deals, the birth of the Corny Dog to KKK Day. SISTERS OF ’77 captures the history of the second wave of the Women’s Movement . It includes some of the last recorded interviews of Betty Friedan and Ann Richards. THE MONSTER AMONG US documents the rise of anti-semitism in Europe. A REASON TO LIVE helps bring awareness about depression and suicide among young people. Cynthia is now immersed in the pre-production of SOLE SISTERS.

I feel mentally and socially dwarfed by the idea of Cynthia and the huge body of meaningful work she has produced. What a wonderful life she must lead, plunging from one rich topic to another deeply involving herself in understanding and explaining it so even we can understand. I would love to just follow her around and get coffee for her.
